SCOPE OF THE GRANT

The Sonntag Grant supports one FLINTA (female, lesbian, intersex, non-binary, trans, agender) artist per year with a €3,000 grant to develop a photography project. The grant is intended to provide financial and creative space to pursue new or ongoing work.

ELIGIBILITY

Submissions are open to self-identified FLINTA artists of any nationality or location, aged 18+. By submitting, participants confirm they are part of the FLINTA community.

Close friends, family members, or collaborators with ongoing personal or professional relationships with either co-founder are not eligible to apply.

ACCEPTED WORK

We accept all forms of photographic work. Projects can be new or ongoing. Complementary work in other media – like text, film, audio, or music – is welcome, as long as photography remains central to the project.

We do not accept AI-generated images.

SUBMISSION AND FEES

  • Submissions open on September 1, 2025, and close at midnight on October 31, 2025 (Berlin/CET time)
  • A submission fee of €10 is required to help cover costs
  • The fee is non-refundable under any circumstance
  • Submissions must be made via the official form
  • All required documents must be submitted for the application to be considered

SELECTION PROCESS

Submissions will be reviewed in a two-step process: an initial long-list review by a small internal team, followed by a final jury decision. Decisions are final and not subject to appeal.

Submissions will be reviewed based on:
  • Clarity of the idea – Is the project clearly described and well thought out?
  • Strength of visual language – Are the images compelling, however they’re made?
  • Potential for development – Is the project at a stage where the grant could make a difference?
  • Original perspective – Does the work bring something fresh or thoughtful?

COPYRIGHT AND USAGE RIGHTS

  • Applicants confirm that all submitted work is their own, and that they hold full copyright
  • Applicants are solely responsible for securing any necessary permissions for the use of people, locations, or third-party content in their work. This includes model and property releases where applicable
  • By submitting, applicants grant Sonntag GbR non-exclusive rights to use selected submitted material for promotional and archival purposes. This includes publication on our website and social media channels
  • Submitted works may be cropped or edited to fit formats, but we will always aim to respect the artist’s intent
  • Grant recipients also agree that the final project developed with the support of the grant (including the submitted deliverables) may be shared on our channels and used in promotional or editorial contexts, including web, social media, newsletters, and future printed materials
  • We will always credit the artist by name whenever their work is used
  • Grant recipients agree to mention and, where applicable, tag Sonntag Grant when promoting the project they completed/worked on with the grant.

GRANT CONDITIONS AND DELIVERABLES

The grant recipient will be notified by email within two months of the submission deadline. A public announcement will follow shortly after.

The artist agrees to allow us to share their bio and provide a profile photo for use on our website, on social media and other promotional materials.

From the date of public announcement, the artist has six months to complete the following deliverables:
  • A written project text
  • A minimum of 10 photographs
  • A completed “Award Report” form provided by Sonntag GbR (which may ask for process feedback, a short statement for public use, etc.)

GRANT PAYMENT

€2,000 of the total €3,000 grant will be paid as soon as a profile picture and sample of previous work for the public announcement is provided. The remaining €1,000 will be paid upon submission of all deliverables.

All payments will be made via bank transfer. The artist must provide valid IBAN and BIC details for an account registered in their name.

DATA HANDLING

We retain submission and payment data for a limited period in accordance with data protection regulations. Please refer to our Privacy Policy for full details.

We reserve the right to disqualify applicants or withdraw the grant if:
  • Submitted work is found to infringe on another person’s rights
  • Deliverables are not submitted within the agreed timeframe
  • The participant is found to have violated these terms
